Hi, I am also having issues with not getting emails sent with the IA. All other mail functions are working and do send emails. I am not sure what could be happening here. The site I am attempting to do it for is not live to the public. I have it as a subdomain for now. I am testing out buddypress and will be migrating from Jomsocial. any thoughts why emails invites are not going out?

Not the right place for this, I know, so feel free to move it, delete it, or jump up and down on it and squash it into tiny pieces.

Just wanted to say "thank you" for (your part in) the BuddyPress Skeleton Component plugin. Not only has it been really helpful to me in setting up a fairly major part of a site, but also, it makes me chuckle every time I visit my 'installed plugins' page and see the author as "Dr Jan Itor"! :-]]

In a multisite installation, in the Members section, to add a member we are presented with a paginated list of all users in the multisite system - and they are not in alphabetical order, making it quite a slog to find and add a particular user to a group. What would be needed to either add an AJAX search function for the list (ideal) or at least render the list in alphabetical order based on last name?

You have nothing to feel guilty about, it is the nature of the beast right now. And righteous indignation about these issues without any organized approach to labor has gutted that idea of a fair wage at many universities under the banner of "mission." That is so dangerous, and being outside of it and making a good wage is good for everyone, kudos Boone, you are my hero!

Thanks for the comment, Jim. Maybe the most uncomfortable part of the whole money thing is that I sometimes feel *guilty* for making money. To some extent, it's because there's a real tension between the causes I believe in (free-as-in-speech software, public education, etc) and high-priced consultants. But another part of the guilt comes from what is, I think, a sort of unspoken ethos among some members of the academy that it's somehow a gauche to make money from one's job, an unfortunate byproduct of the fact that we live in a capitalist system (or something like that). I think that this ethos is naive, and deserves to be dissected a bit so that academics and not-quite-academics can have a more honest discussion about the role that money plays in their relationships.

Thanks for pointing this out, Chris. I've been following the BP Trac ticket that you opened regarding the issue, and I'll update this post accordingly when that's been settled.

<blockquote>I’m making an amount of money that is directly connected to the quality of my work, a startling and frankly disarming contrast to the way things seem to operate in universities, especially in the work I did as an adjunct.</blockquote>

This is the money quote for me :) Fuck you, pay me! It worked for Ray Liotta, and it is one of the real shames of higher ed right now, there is no value associated with our work because we are reducing it all to a metric that can be easily outsourced. I mean when you start blogging for the Chronicle at the rate of $10 a post, you've lost more than your soul, you've also lost the opportunity to sell out, which is the greatest loss of all ;)

I am a big fan, and as far as academics looking down at you for not having a Ph.D., it is the whole lack of true diversity of degrees and expertise at the university that makes it such a nightmare often times, I wish they would realize that. Too many Ph.Ds in one place is a terrible idea. :)

Hi Boone,

The test you use on line 033 to see if a group with the provided ID exists doesn't appear to work.

When a new BP_Groups_Group instance is created (as you do on line 031) by passing in an non existent ID, the returned BP_Groups_Group object's ID property still contains the ID you passed in, even though the group doesn't actually exist.

Testing the 'date_created' property instead appears to work, or do you have any other suggestion?

Kind regards

Chris
